Close your eyes and reminisce about your favorite brands, such as McDonald’s, Twitter, Starbucks, and Nike. What images conjured up in your mind? A golden arch, a blue birdie, a goddess, or a tick perhaps, instead of a more logical formidable Big Mac, a hilarious tweet, a steaming cup of a caramel macchiato, or a striking pair of trainers? I’m sure your brain instantly linked the logo to the word. These brands are instantly recognizable by their universally ubiquitous symbols, as they don’t need even a single letter of text to define their brand.

The visual identity of a logo can make or break the brand’s impression in the eyes of potential consumers. Your brand logo serves as a true indicator of your business value, loyalty, and togetherness. Seeing a logo can trigger how you feel about a brand and what it offers. These epic icons are a visual representation of your company that delivers a lasting impression and attract your target audience.

When it comes to designing a logo, even a seemingly insignificant detail can make a huge difference. These details give way to a great concept and result in a classic, memorable logo that is authentic yet professional in its touch. Logo designing is an intricate task which requires careful planning and meticulousness during the entire process. You must learn to focus on every important detail – from the use of a perfect font which is an embodiment of your tone and style, to the color palette employed, down to the use of negative space and geometric shapes, and of course alignment with the 2018’s logo design trends, in order to create a winning logo design for your brand.

Remember that simplicity always reigns supreme, so keep away from needless frills and design something that serves to capture the eye within a fraction of a second. Never rush through a logo, take your time, do your diligent research and don’t settle for an identity that is anything less than impressive. Invest your time, energy and efforts to come up with the best logo design possible. Build your brand identity with the help of this master recipe shared by Branex’s logo design experts to create or redesign your logo in 2018 and give it a clean, fresh and modernized look:

Sometimes I ask to myself, what is a good design? For me, good design has two important aspects: it pleases the eye and it serves a purpose. The second aspect is easy to make out. Let me give you an example: you get a flyer for an event. The flyer tells you what the event is about when it takes place and where. You get all the information you need, so the first goal is accomplished. But what actually makes you want to go? That’s where the second aspect comes into play. And that’s where it gets a bit difficult. Any professional branding design must be visually pleasing to trigger an emotion (looks like fun), which in turn triggers an action. It is necessary for a branding design to be visually appealing to attract the customer. But visually pleasing is something, you cannot really define because people respond to design differently. What pleases one, doesn’t necessarily please all. What makes it even more difficult is, the immense flood of design we are confronted with every day, from the package design of your milk carton to the smartphone advertisement on the bus station to the Facebook message you read before going to bed. With design software available online and easy to handle even for non-designers. Everybody and their mom is creating their own stuff now. But professional designing is not easy, therefore responsible business owners likes to hire professional digital agencies to do the stuff than do it themselves.

Let me acquaint you with 9 rules to great design pieces in the infographic below:

The world is going through the probable danger of ransomware hitting all parts of the globe and that has put all the online security professionals on their toes to find out new ways to protect data from this malicious hacking attempt.

Ransomware is the new kind of hacking that took place for the first time in 1989. It a form of programming code that embeds itself in your system, or email or in your mobile phones restricting or completely halting your access to the system. In return, a ransom amount is demanded to let your system go.

A not so old study from the antivirus vendor Bitdefender published in 2015 suggested that “half of the population struck by ransomware were willing to pay up to $500 to recover their data.”

The problem is only getting worse. With the recent incline in the ratio of ransomware attacks in different parts of the globe, online businesses and users are in a state of emergency to find alternatives that could effectively protect their data from theft.

Everyone is looking for probable solutions to stop the potential threat of the new menace. Branex has stepped in and created this infographic for its clients and prospects to get abreast with what ransomware is and how could they protect them from the probable data theft.

The post Recipe for an Epic Mobile App Design appeared first on Branex Official Blog.

]]>
A recent study by Google suggested that an average user has about 36 mobile apps installed on their smart phones and the usage is only limited to 9 of them. Statistically revealing, only 4% of the installed apps are used on daily basis by an average American mobile phone user.

So, what factor is that which makes the mobile app usable? Its user engagement.

User engagement in mobile app design accounts for the user experience design (UX) principles that are used to your advantage. Any app that is being used more by the user in comparison to others is definitely more usable and ranks high in terms of user experience. A more usable app is not only high on user experience but it also reduces chances of app uninstalls. Better user experience also accounts for your app getting a positive word of mouth, something that is beyond and above all kinds of app marketing practices that you follow digitally.

Let us now look at 5 ingredients that you put in to create epic mobile app designs that will delight your users globally:

Usability and user goals

Supposed you own a cab company and you have designed an app for the users to use and call a cab. Imagine a user stranded at a bus station in heavy rain. What possible requirement your user will be hoping to be fulfilled at that time? Calling a cab with minimal efforts. And this is exactly you would must design your app for. Create a UX flow that allow your users to fulfill their requirement in minimal time with minimal efforts. Too many clicks, longer wait will eventually result in your app uninstalled.

Define clear call-to-action (CTA) buttons

Call-to-action buttons, commonly known as the CTA button is to induce the user to take the action desired by the app owner. Referring to the previous example of a cab company, a probable CTA for them would be ‘Book a cab’. A CTA that clearly explains the purpose is going to contribute more in the overall usability of an app design than one that just said ‘submit’.

Secondly, a CTA button should almost always be very visible to the app user. Naturally that requires it to be placed somewhere where the user will focus or you use techniques upon the button to design it in a way that builds the focus on it. Use of colors, visuals and animation are the widely used ways to instill focus in CTA buttons.

Do not design for thinner thumbs

And by that we meant to say that place the CTA at considerable distance from each other (in case there are more than one) and avoid linking them to shapes that are small, like a dot. Imagine you have two dots signifying two different purposes, and your user has a thick thumb. Chances of errors rise automatically in such cases and out of frustration your user might just click, Uninstall!

Do not drain the battery

Mobile app design of any app should be created by focusing on the battery usage. For example, use of multiple colors of animations could result in faster drainage of battery. Therefore, while designing your mobile app, make sure to use techniques that could not only create better user experiences but also saves the battery life of the smart phone. Keeping simple colors, using shorter navigations and to the task background services helps a lot.

Focus on bandwidth usage

Another preventive measure in a mobile user experience that should be avoided is high bandwidth consumption. Limit the information to be downloaded on the go. Background services takes up huge amount of bandwidth too. Create re-usable graphic assets for different tasks within the app, such as a cab icon to indicate moving cabs through the city, on a map. Ask for user action beyond a section for further download of information, graphic assets, images and videos.

Let us now look at a graphical depiction of what we read here, for better understanding and retention purposes.

Being a graphic designer, it is important to know the similarities and differences between print design and web design. Since there are many similarities between the two, design standards don’t change. But there are many people who are not fully aware of the differences between the two and design both with the same mindset and approach.

For instance, when a design is created for print medium such as magazine, flyer, brochure, the way users interact with it is entirely different to a website. The experience is about turning pages and moving through the information. In addition, you need to consider various factors such as aesthetic design, quality of the paper the design is printed on, color, texture, weight and finishing. All these things become the part of the experience of the piece as you see it, pick it up and feel it.

Usually, there is not much interactivity and intuitiveness, other than flipping pages and turning them over. There are no links to click on, rollovers to hover, etc. It doesn’t allow you to make a comment or respond to you as you interact with it.

When it comes to websites, they function in a completely different way, it’s all about clicking and scrolling and providing interaction with the user. Things happen only when you click and move your mouse. And in many modern websites, providing relevant content in the more personalized format has now become the norm. Websites can keep users more engaged, allow them to explore some more relevant topics, provide place to click on and lead them to the next.

Web designing is different from print designing, it is all about continuous improvement, continuous tweaking and improvement. They are frequently evolving. Some companies redesign their company websites to provide more intuitive user experience.  While in print design, what you see is what you get. The information is printed on a finite piece of paper, that will not grow or expand over time. It will still the same forever.

Check out this infographic that will help you understand the differences and similarities between the web design and print design.

User experience is one of the most critical factors that directly leads to success or failure of your mobile app design. Very often, user experience (UX) is mixed with usability of your app, which is also true to a certain level, as usability does help in building a user experience for your user, however, UX has grown more to accommodate not just usability but a myriad of facets that needs to be taken care of to deliver a superior user experience to your mobile app user.

There are 7 important factors that combine to form a winning user experience and in this infographic we have described them in detail. But before proceeding to the infographic, let’s have a read through of what these factors are that are going to make or break our mobile app’s user experience.

Usefulness

Probably the first and foremost factor that clearly declares the success quotient of your app in the market. No one would want to use a product that is not useful for them. Your mobile app will fail miserably if it fail to be of use to its target market. You just cannot umbrella your app’s non-usefulness if clearly it’s unable to accomplish a task for the user.

Research on the usefulness of the app that you are about to launch. A strict competitor analysis (if applicable) is a great tool that helps you decide on the useful features of your app.

Usability

Do not confuse usefulness with usability. Where usefulness is the purpose fulfillment of an app, usability accounts for how easily that purpose is fulfilled by the user. For example: If the steps in catching a Pokemon in ‘Pokemon Go’ would be difficult then the game wouldn’t be as big hit as it is today.

Findable

This features of building user experience can be understood by the example of newspaper. If the news on a paper are scattered all throughout instead of being clubbed within sections of sports, entertainment and business, it would get very difficult for the reader to find what he is looking for to read. Similar is the case with mobile apps. If your mobile app is cluttered and its features are not easily findable by the users, it will not be able to leave a profound impression on them, resulting in their not returning to the app.

Credibility

As said by Randall Terry, “fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” The user of today is just not going to let you fool them the second time. Today the app stores are filled with apps that undergo almost similar functions. Search for one and it displays with its alternatives already in front of you.

Credibility relates to the ability of the product to not just perform what it vouches to do, but to provide a long term value to the user in terms of the accurate information that it provides and that fits the purpose.

Desirability

Toyota and Ford both manufactures SUVs. Both of them are useful, usable and findable that provides long term and honest value to the users, however, if given a chance to the users to choose among the two, many Americans will most probably go with Ford. Not saying that Toyota makes bad cars, but there is a certain value that the customer derive from the product. Similar is the case with mobile apps.

This value is driven through the design, style and presentation of the app. If you have created your mobile app design in a way that is both a treat to the eye and functional, there is no way that it is going to miss out on attracting the user, thus successfully achieving the first milestone of positive user experience.

Accessibility

Unfortunately, accessibility often is given less value when it comes to creating a mix for a profound user experience.

Accessibility is often termed as providing the experience to the user that covers the full range of the abilities. This also covers those who have hearing impairment or any other form of disability. Designs that are made keeping the usability factor of the app is usually considered less important for companies as people with disabilities makes a smaller segment of the overall market. Keeping the accessibility factor in your mobile app design is definitely going to do well for your brand, along with bringing you more cash. As mentioned earlier, there are not many options that people with disabilities have in the app market.

Value

Finally, your mobile app must deliver value. It must deliver value to the business which has created it and to the users too who buys it. The value will be determined by summing up all the above mentioned factors together that also eventually translates into a winning user experience that the app creates for its target market.

Conclusion

The success of the mobile app greatly depends on the usability of the product. Products that rank high on usability, usefulness coupled with other factors that I mentioned in the post and in the infographic, makes the app UX go higher, thus resulting in better market response and reach to the customers. Mobile app development agencies that keep in mind the mentioned factors in their mind, their apps usually do much better than the rest in competition.
